چکیده

A uni®ed approach for accurate approximations of displacements and displacement derivatives with respect to design variables is presented. The solution procedure is based on results of a single exact analysis at an initial design. Unlike common approximations of the structural response, the approach presented is not based on calculation of derivatives. Rather, approximations of displacements are used to evaluate displacement derivatives at various modi®ed designs. It is shown that similar computational procedures are employed for evaluating displacements, ®rst-and second-order derivatives of displacements. The procedure presented is suitable for di€erent types of design variables and structures. Numerical results show that accurate approximations of derivatives can be achieved with a small computational e€ort for designs obtained by very large changes in the initial structure.

Dynamic substructuring and reanalysis methods in a surrogate-based design optimization environment

In light weight structure design, vibration control is necessary to meet strict stability requirements and to improve the fatigue life of structural components. Due to ever-increasing demands on products, it is generally more convenient to include vibration prerequisites in a design process instead of using vibration control devices on fixed designs. One of the main difficulties associated to d...

A Two Level Approximation Technique for Structural Optimization

This work presents a method for optimum design of structures, where the design variables can he considered as Continuous or discrete. The variables are chosen as sizing variables as well as coordinates of joints. The main idea is to reduce the number of structural analyses and the overal cost of optimization. In each design cycle, first the structural response quantities such as forces, displac...

Application of the Sequential Optimization and Reliability Assessment Method to Structural Design Problems

The use of probabilistic optimization in structural design applications is hindered by the huge computational cost associated with evaluating probabilistic characteristics, where the computationally expensive finite element method (FEM) is often used for simulating design performance. In this paper, a Sequential Optimization and Reliability Assessment (SORA) method with analytical derivatives i...

Two-Dimensional Fixed Grid Based Finite Element Structural Analysis

This paper introduces a new fixed mesh structural analysis technique based on isoparametric formulations from classic finite element analysis. Fixed mesh methods are popular in boundary based optimisation as they avoid mesh distortion problems and reanalysis is simple and efficient. The area ratio based fixed grid method is often employed due to its favourable simplicity in implementation. Howe...

Approximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis Using Reduction of Ground Motion Records

Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) requires the analysis of the non-linear response history of a structure for an ensemble of ground motions, each scaled to multiple levels of intensity and selected to cover the entire range of structural response. Recognizing that IDA of practical structures is computationally demanding, an approximate procedure based on the reduction of the number of ground m...
